"Using the PRDH and the LaFrance Databases"

Two of the most valuable resources available to French-Canadian genealogists are the PRDH and GenealogieQuebec’s Lafrance database. Sandra Goodwin of the Maple Stars and Stripes genealogy podcast will explain the different versions of the PRDH, the benefits of using the Lafrance database, and how to coordinate the information between both collections. The Drouin Institute has also generously donated two raffle prizes for audience members: a 1-year subscription to Genealogy Quebec (where you can access the Lafrance database as well as several other valuable resources) and 500 PRDH hits (a hit is access to one record).

Funeral Homes & Family History: They're Dying to Meet You

Speaker:  Daniel Earl

Daniel Earl got his start at age 10 when he visited his great-grandfather's grave. He spent the last 25 years researching his own family and helping others make history a part of their story. Daniel is a member of several groups and organizations and has experience doing research in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic states in the United States, New England, Eastern Canada, Eastern Europe, Great Britain and Ireland.

Most genealogists know how to look in a cemetery to find their ancestors, but what about funeral homes? Funeral home records can provide loads of genealogically rich information. This presentation will teach participants what types of records are typically found in funeral homes, how to locate these resources online an "in the field", as well as provide real-life examples of how to search from ancillary clues in funeral home records.
