"WolframAlpha for Genealogists"

WolframAlpha, according to Thomas MacEntee, Internationally known genealogist and blogger, is a "computational database and NOT a search engine." So why is this an important resource for the serious researcher? Well, you can enter a given name into WolframAlpha's database, like Elizabeth, and it will list all the common nicknames for that particular moniker. Very helpful when researching census records and civil records including births and marriages. It is also possible to find the modern day equivalent to diseases referred to in very old documents. Using this database is a fun and easy way to add another dimension to what you already know about your ancestors' lives.
